Nendrapazham Payasam (with coconut milk) |Paal Vazhakka

Nendrapazham Payasam

Easy and delicious pazham payasam with cococnut milk
Prep Time: 5 minutes .
Cooking Time: 5 minutes
Serves: 2 to 3

  1. Sago pearls- 1/4 cup
  2. Thin coconut milk – 1.5 cups
  3. Ripe plantain,diced.1/2 ” pieces – 1 large
  4. Thick coconut milk- 1.5 cups
  5. Cardamom powder- 1 generous pinch
  6. Cashew nuts,chopped – 1 tbsp
  7. Raisins – 1 tbsp
  8. Ghee – as required
  9. Sugar – to taste
  10. Salt – 1 pinch


  • Soak sago pearls in water for about 10 minutes.Heat thin coconut milk in a pan,add the soaked and drained sago pearls and cook until done.

  • Next add the chopped banana and cook until it turns soft.

  • Finally add thick coconut milk and mix well.Heat ghee in a pan and fry cashew nuts and raisins. 

  • Add fried cashew nuts and raisins,sugar,salt and cardamom powder to the coconut milk -banana mixture ,mix well and bring it to just under a boil.Switch off the stove and serve warm.


    • You could also fry the chopped banana in ghee  and then add to the sago coconut milk mixture.
    • Adjust the quantity of thick coconut milk according to the consistency required.
